The room is loud before it is quiet. Children arrive, swap books, argue happily about which story is best — and then, one by one, settle into reading.
The best moment of the morning was a child who had refused to read aloud for weeks asking to read the last page to the group. Nobody said much. Everybody clapped.
That is what the reading clubs are for: not just reading, but the confidence that comes with it.
